The launch of the EEA Civil Society Fund and bidding process for Fund Operators

On November 20,2024, the EEA Civil Society Fund was launched. It respesents a significant new initative by Iceland, Liechenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants, with an allocation of over € 300 million. The fund represents an unprecedented commitment to strengthening democracy, human rights, and the rule of law across Europe.

The EEA Civil Society Fund seeks to empower civil society organisations across Europe by providing targeted support to those advocating for democratic values, civic participation,and human rights.

The focus of the Fund will be on areas that are essential for the promotion of democracy, rule of law and human rights. These, among others, include:

  • Democratic values, civic engagement, information integrity and media literacy
  • Civil society participation in democratic processes
  • Human rights, anti-discrimination, and social justice
  • Climate action, enviormental protection, and a just green transition.

In additional to financial support, the EEA Civil Society will help civil society organisations diversify their funding, engage volunteers, and also enable efficiency in the operation that include complex enviroments. All of that brings out the final result of  more resilient and confident civil society and positive change.

The fund also seeks to create opportunities for European-level collaboration, enabling organisations to share best practices and strenghten their networks across borders. Specific funding will be commited for this purpose.
