Study visit of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate within the „Energy and Climate Change“ Programme

The Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds, as the Programme Operator of the “Energy and Climate Change” Programme financed within the European Economic Area (EEA) Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, was visited by a delegation of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, which is also a Donor Programme Partner.

In the period from 26th to 28th September 2022, the delegation of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, together with the Programme Operator and Programme Partner (Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar), carried out numerous activities. To begin with, on 26th September 2022, the fifth Cooperation Committee meeting of the Programme was held, and in the following two days, 27th and 28th September four visits to projects under implementation were organized. On that occasion, meetings were held with the elected Project Promoters of the “Energy and Climate Change” Program in the cities of Karlovac, Pula, Rovinj, and Zagreb.

The visit to the projects began in Karlovac where the Project Promoter “GeotermiKA” presented the project “Use of geothermal energy for heating purposes in the city of Karlovac – PREP4KaGT-1”. The main project objective is a development of a pilot project in the south-west part of the Pannonian basin region where, on the terrain surface, interface with the Dinarides region will be followed with an aim of increasing the capacities for production and usage of heat from geothermal energy in the City of Karlovac, that is, preparation of the drilling working area for the location of the future drilling plant and excavation of a trial pit for assessing borehole KaGT-1.

Afterward, a meeting was held in Pula with the Project Promoter Istrian County for the project “Good energy – solar energy for the energy transition”. The respective meeting was a bit more special because the Minister of Regional Development and European Union Funds, Mrs. Nataša Tramišak, personally participated. The main aim of the project “Good energy – solar energy for the energy transition” is to increase the production of energy from renewable energy sources in the area of Istria County as well as in the areas from which the Project Partners operate. The project plans to build 22 integrated photovoltaic power plants that will generate a total power of 0.993 MW.

The day ended with a visit to Rovinj, more precisely to project “Sea for Heritage Energy Transition”. The Project Promoter is the Special Hospital for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation “Martin Horvat” Rovinj-Rovigno, whose aim is to promote the use of marine heat energy through heat pumps in the energy renovation projects of two hospital buildings that represent cultural assets.

The last day of the visit of the delegation of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate was reserved for a meeting with the representatives of the City of Zagreb, during which they were presented with the project “Solarization of Institutions of the City of Zagreb “. The goal of the project is to increase the use of renewable energy sources in institutions and real estate owned or founded by the City of Zagreb and at the location of the property Podružnica Čistoće, which is part of Zagrebački holding ltd.
